TMJ Massage in Concord, NH
TMJ massage releases the jaw muscles behind clenching, grinding, and jaw pain using focused intraoral and external work. Strength and Power Massage is the only clinic in the Concord, NH area offering it as a dedicated service.
We are the only provider in the Concord area currently offering dedicated TMJ massage.
What it is
Your jaw is moved by a small group of hard-working muscles: the masseter and temporalis on the outside, and the medial and lateral pterygoids deeper in. When those muscles stay tight, they pull the joint out of balance and refer pain into the jaw, teeth, ears, and head.
TMJ massage works those muscles directly. Most of the session is external, on the jaw, cheek, and temple. Part of it is intraoral: with a gloved hand, the therapist reaches the muscles inside the cheek that cannot be released any other way. You stay fully dressed the whole time, and the session runs 20 or 30 minutes.

What a session looks like
We start with a short assessment: where it hurts, when it started, whether you clench or grind, and what your dentist has told you.
External work comes first to warm up the jaw, cheek, and temple. Then, if it fits your case and you are comfortable, gloved intraoral work releases the muscles inside the cheek. You direct the pressure the whole way.
You leave with the jaw moving more freely and, usually, a simple thing or two to do between visits. This is treatment, not diagnosis: if something needs a dentist or doctor, we say so.

Common questions
Does TMJ massage hurt?
The muscles are often tender, so firm work on them can feel intense, but it should never be sharp or unbearable. You set the pressure, and the therapist checks in throughout. Most people describe it as the good kind of sore that eases quickly.
What is intraoral massage?
Intraoral means inside the mouth. With a gloved hand, the therapist reaches the jaw muscles along the inside of your cheek that cannot be released from the outside. It is a small part of the session, it is always optional, and you stay in control of it.
Do I need a TMJ diagnosis to book?
No. You can book if you clench, grind, get tension headaches, or just carry tightness in your jaw. If you do have a TMJ or TMD diagnosis, bring what your dentist or doctor told you so we can work with it.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how long the pattern has been building. Many people feel looser after one session; lasting change for chronic clenching usually takes a short series, and we will give you a realistic read after the first visit.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Many clients use HSA or FSA funds for therapeutic massage. Rules vary by plan, so check with your administrator, and we can provide a receipt for your records.
